About training

Welcome to the 2nd Club Officer Training for Division A.
The 2nd club officer training will be held in Sendai City on January 10 (Sun), 2010. It will be different in format from the first training.
How will it be different? Please read below.

Background of (July 2009) First Training [then outline of (Jan. 2010) 2nd training]
We had a lot of great feedback from the 88 participants at the first Training (at Edogawa Green Palace on July 26, 2009).

Much of the feedback we received was:
“Overall, we learned a lot.”
“We enjoyed the training.”

However, we also received a lot of the following feedback, too:
“Too much lecture! Not enough chance to talk to each other!”
“We want to talk and share with other club leaders in small groups.”

As Div A Governor, I take responsibility for that. We were following the content outlined in the Toastmasters International “Training Club Leaders” manual (Item 217). In order to cover all of the content, it was a very tight and heavy schedule. I think that all of the presenters did an excellent job of covering the material we were apparently supposed to cover. However…

Other comments of feedback were:
“Too much information was presented. We could not absorb it all.”

Again, this is because we were trying to cover what the manual said we needed to cover. Again, I think the presenters/trainers did a very excellent job with what I asked them to do. However, as Division A Governor, I take full responsibility for the tight scheduling of that first training. The Div A Gov (me, Daniel Ross) and all 4 Area Governors (AG Kobayashi, AG Kubota, AG Brassard, and AG Ajioka) have “learned by doing” and by listening to your feedback.

(Jan. 10, 2010) 2nd training (and positive changes to be made)
For the 2nd training, we are going to make it more interactive. We will break into small groups, more often, for discussion. Each session’s introduction and explanation will be shortened.

There will be less lecture style and more “hands-on” workshop/discussion style. We will also have a Panel Discussion for everyone to be able to ask questions about things which were not covered in the workshops, or which you want more clarification about.

Key principles:
1. More chance for YOU (club officers and club members) to talk.
2. More small group discussions.
3. More chance for YOU to share your “Best Practices” and your success stories of YOUR club.
4. More chance for YOU to share your needs, questions, problems, and concerns.
5. More chance for YOU to explain the problems you face in YOUR officer position.
6. More chance for YOU to share the problems and challenges YOUR club is facing.

Come and contribute. Your voice and your knowledge and your stories will help other clubs grow and learn. And you will learn new things from other clubs, too.

Let’s help each other and strengthen the clubs in Division A.

Please help encourage your club officers (and your regular club members, too) to attend. We have a large room reserved and are hoping to reach our goal target of 150 participants.

• Current club officers are definitely encouraged to attend and learn.
• Regular club members are also encouraged to come and learn, too.
o Regular members will someday serve as club officers.
o The more that club members know, the more they understand the club and can help the club officers while they are still regular members.
• Let’s encourage as many members as we can to attend this training!!!

Thank you very much for your help and support,
Daniel Ross, Division A Governor
